It's an honor and priviledge to sign in and be present for Roll Call. I have nothing but admiration and respect for your service to Our Country, as well as, "Being There" in the highest traditions of the NYPD. Viewing our fallen Heroes brings back so many memories. I was appointed 45 years ago, and worked the 48 in the South Bronx. I remember so vividly, and sadly, the days and incidents, when all our Brave NYPD brothers and sister were shot and killed, and wished I could have been there to prevent these tragedies, and protect them. I also remember first hand, meeting the families of Officer Glover, and Sergeant Reddy, and paying my condolences....It was on that day, July 26, 1976, I was honored to participate recognizing these two brave men, during The Medal Ceremonies at 1 Police Plaza, where I had the Honor to receive The Police Combat Cross. I have never forgotten any of the tragedies, sustained by my brothers & sisters of New York's Finest , who have made the "Ultimate Sacrfice".....God Bless them all and may they R.I.P. .....Respectfully, Mike Usiak

Keith, once again, welcome home, brother. And yes, I will link your website: www.hack1966.com to my website. I checked out the American documentary "In the shadow of the blade" focusing on the Vietnam veterans and the UH-1 Iroquois "Huey" of which you were a door-gunner, and helped saved the lives of many a wounded soldiers, extration, bringing them food, water and supply. One of the soldier you helped was Connie "Mack" Pearson 5/7 D Company, 1966'67, who was shot 9 times. This was in Bong Song. One Huey was already shot down trying to rescue the wounded troopers of the First Cavalry Air Mobile Division. There was only room for six wounded in the Huey. You were able with help to rip out a passenger seat and make room for Connie. Connie would have died if not for your actions. You guys finally crossed paths after 36 years. Great story to a happy ending, though Connie is a paraplegic due to his injuries in the Nam. Connie told me how he had told one of the troopers that he was dying. The other trooper told Connie to hold on. Connie then looked up to the sky and saw an image of his mother, as if telling him she was there with him, and to hold on. God only knows why things happen the way they do. The Lord Jesus Christ has always watched over me and my loved ones, and many friends as well. God bless our brave men and women, be they firefighters, law enforcement, emergency personnel, and our military men and women. God bless America. -Joe

I believe chief Ryan visited Sydney, Nova Scotia in the early 1990's and introduced himself to me when he visited the police dept. Chief Ryan took my name and address and a few weeks later I recieved a hand written letter inviting me to visit him at One police plaza in New York. Also in the envelope were numerous NYPD badges. I was sincerely humbled that he took the time to do this for me.
